Trekking Suspended in Manang, Mustang, and Myagdi Due to Snowfall and Rain

Kathmandu

The District Administration Offices of Myagdi, Mustang, and Manang have issued public notices urging people not to undertake trekking in their respective regions due to forecasts of heavy snowfall and rainfall.

The authorities warned that several high-altitude areas are likely to experience moderate to heavy snowfall, increasing risks for trekkers and climbers.

According to the notice, snowfall is expected in upper Himalayan regions including Mustang–Dolpa Yak Kharka (5,800 meters), Mustang–Manang Thorong La Pass (5,450 meters), Mustang–Manang Saribung Pass (6,000 meters), and the Dhaulagiri trekking route’s Dhampus Peak area. Treks through these routes have been strongly discouraged until weather conditions improve.

Other parts of Mustang are also likely to experience snow and rain. Tourists and pilgrims have been urged to remain cautious, stay updated on weather forecasts, and travel only after taking necessary precautions.

In Manang, continuous rainfall in lower regions and heavy snowfall in upper areas have prompted the District Security Committee to request both domestic and foreign trekkers to avoid trekking or mountaineering activities within or through the district. Visitors currently in Manang have been advised to stay where they are and not to set out on new treks or climbs.

Similarly, in Myagdi District, authorities have reported ongoing rainfall and light snowfall at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC). Consequently, trekking to Annapurna Base Camp has been suspended from Kartik 10 to Kartik 14 (October 26–30, 2025).

High-altitude and mountainous areas of Myagdi — including popular destinations such as Annapurna Base Camp, Ghorepani, Poon Hill, Khopra, the Dhaulagiri Trail, and Mohare Danda — are considered highly susceptible to snowfall. Local residents, tourists, trekking guides, and travel operators have been advised to monitor weather and accommodation conditions carefully and prioritize safety.

Heavy snowfall has been reported since early Tuesday morning across Nepal’s Himalayan regions, including Annapurna Base Camp, Manang, Muktinath, Upper Mustang, Solukhumbu (Khumbu region), Gorkha, and Eastern Rukum. Snow accumulation ranging from 10 to 30 centimeters has been recorded along several trekking routes.

Due to the severe weather, major trekking routes such as Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), Thorong La Pass, and Tilicho Lake Trail have been completely closed.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s latest bulletin, light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are expected across various parts of the country between Kartik 10 and 12 (October 26–28, 2025).
