Lalitpur — Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security, Sharatsingh Bhandari, has stated that Nepal should emulate South Korea’s skills, technology, and experience to drive national progress.
Speaking at the public launch of the “Hami App” in Lalitpur on Thursday, Minister Bhandari noted that South Korea achieved rapid development within a short period, and Nepali migrant workers have also contributed to that success.
“Nepalis are working not only in Korea but in many countries around the world. They have made significant contributions to the economic development of those nations,” said Bhandari. “Such contributions should be recognized and respected by the respective countries.”
He stressed that returning migrant workers should mobilize their acquired skills, capital, and experience for Nepal’s development and prosperity.
“Our workers are toiling abroad with their blood and sweat,” he said. “Their hard work has fueled economic growth and prosperity in host nations. We are partners in that development, and our workers deserve respect. Safe migration must be ensured. They should receive equal rights, facilities, and wages as local citizens.”
Minister Bhandari emphasized that Nepali workers should not be treated differently abroad and must be provided with equal services and benefits. He added that the government is actively entering into bilateral labor agreements with various countries.
He further stated that Nepal is raising its voice in international forums for equal treatment and protection of its migrant workers. “The government is committed to ensuring that Nepalis can work abroad safely and with dignity,” he affirmed.
Minister Bhandari also shared that the structure of the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security — which was previously more focused on foreign employment — is now being restructured to align with current needs and priorities.
