Social Media Regulation Bill in Process of Being Approved by Council of Ministers



Kathmandu- The Government has announced that a bill to regulate social media is in the process of being approved by the Council of Ministers.

Speaking at the Law, Justice, and Human Rights Committee meeting on Monday, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Radhika Aryal informed that the bill is under review by the Council of Ministers.

She explained that after the bill is approved, it must be submitted to the Federal Parliament for discussion. Aryal noted that the bill includes provisions for the prohibition of advertisements for restricted goods and services, with penalties for violations. Additionally, the bill aims to bring social media comments within the scope of regulation.

Secretary Aryal further informed that the Ministry is gradually adapting to the rapid changes in information technology.
