Kathmandu. The Online Document Management System (ODMS) for the Electricity Regulatory Commission (ERC) was officially launched today in Kathmandu, marking a significant step toward digital transformation in the energy sector.
The primary objective of the digital initiative is to enhance service delivery by ensuring accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the Commission’s operations.
The launch event was attended by several prominent figures, including the Chief Guest, Deepak Khadka, Minister of Water Supply, Energy, and Irrigation. Other notable attendees included Ganesh Karki, President of the Independent Power Producers’ Association Nepal (IPPAN), Suresh Acharya, General Secretary of IPPAN, and Ram Prasad Dhital, Chairman of the Electricity Regulatory Commission.
A live demonstration was held to showcase the functionality of the Online Document Management System and the steps required for submitting forms. According to the organizers, the system is currently in its trial phase, with plans to refine it further based on user feedback. The trial period is scheduled to last for one month.
Speaking at the event, Minister Khadka underscored the importance of embracing digital technology in Nepal. He urged the Commission to reduce the trial period to three days, emphasizing the need for swift implementation to maximize the benefits of the system.
On the subject of cybersecurity, Chairman Dhital assured the audience that data storage is securely managed by Nepal Telecom, the Nepal Telecommunications Authority, and the Government Integrated Data Centre. He further highlighted the system’s key features, including expert interfaces, auditing capabilities, defined timelines, and integrated accounting tools to ensure security and efficiency.
The ODMS initiative is expected to streamline regulatory processes and pave the way for a more tech-driven energy sector in Nepal.
