Prime Minister Issues Directives for Earthquake Risk Reduction



Kathmandu – Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, taking into account the recent earthquake activity, has urged the public to stay alert and safe.

Nepal has been experiencing a series of earthquake shocks, ranging from strong to weak, over the past few days. In light of this, the Prime Minister has appealed to all citizens to take necessary precautions and remain safe.

On Tuesday morning, through his official Facebook account, the Prime Minister issued a safety advisory, writing, “Small earthquake shocks in different parts these days. Everyone stay alert, stay safe.”

A major earthquake struck at 6:51 AM on Tuesday, with strong tremors felt in Kathmandu and other regions of Nepal. According to the Department of Mines and Geology, the epicenter of this earthquake was located in the Shigatse region of Tibet, near the Nepal-China border.

The earthquake was particularly strong in the Kathmandu Valley, as well as in the districts of Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, and Ramechhap. Minor tremors were also felt in the Koshi and Madhesh Provinces. Additionally, some impact was reported in Tibet and Sikkim, India.

The Department of Mines and Geology expects the earthquake’s magnitude to exceed 7. Further studies are underway to gather detailed information about the event.
