Kathmandu – Minister of Water Supply Pradip Yadav has assured that the government is committed to finding a long-term solution to the drinking water problem in Kathmandu Valley.
Speaking at a monitoring program of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited, Minister Yadav explained that the government is actively working on a plan to address the Valley’s water issues in the long term. He highlighted that the supply of Melamchi water currently lasts only for eight months, and efforts are underway to find a permanent solution.
To ensure 24-hour water supply in Kathmandu, Minister Yadav said a water processing center is being set up in Sundarijal, with tenders already called for its construction.
“We are monitoring various areas to prevent drinking water supply problems in the valley. We are also overseeing pipelines that use new technology. A long-term plan has been created to prevent any future drinking water issues in Kathmandu. However, at present, we are only able to distribute Melamchi water for eight months each year,” he said.
