The Hisense Nepal First SAIM Inter-College Seven-A-Side Futsal Tournament is set to begin tomorrow at the Royal Nepal Futsal Ground in Bhaktapur, with participation from 28 college teams from across the valley. The event is being organized by SAIM College as a platform to promote student leadership, athletic skills, competitiveness, and inter-college camaraderie.
Speaking at a press conference held on Monday, SAIM College Principal Ashok Raj Pandey announced that all preparations for the tournament have been completed. He emphasized that SAIM College places strong importance on co-curricular activities alongside academics, and believes events like this play a vital role in fostering holistic student development.
The tournament will feature teams from various undergraduate colleges operating under the semester system. The teams have been divided into eight groups, and matches will follow a league format before proceeding to the knockout stage.
According to SAIM College Vice Principal Bishal Shrestha, the total estimated cost of organizing the tournament is approximately NPR 550,000.
The winning team will be awarded a cash prize of NPR 90,000 along with the championship trophy. The runner-up will receive NPR 40,000, while the third-place team will take home NPR 20,000. In individual categories, the Best Player will receive NPR 5,000, while the Best Defender, Best Goalkeeper, and Top Scorer will each receive NPR 3,000 along with gift vouchers. A special honor with a trophy will be presented to the Best Coach of the tournament.
Having successfully completed five editions of the SAIM Premier League (intra-college cricket tournament), SAIM College is hosting an inter-college futsal tournament for the first time. According to tournament coordinator Dasharath Shahi, the event aims to establish a unique identity in inter-college sports competitions.
The tournament is being sponsored by Hisense Nepal as the title sponsor. Co-sponsors include Ather Energy, Pathao Nepal, UPS Nepal, Medex Multi-Specialty Clinic & Diagnostic Center, Park Village Resort, Surya Nepal, Jasmine Paints, and Ben Nevis.
