Kathmandu- The Central Revenue Leakage Control Committee has emphasized the importance of coordination and collaboration among stakeholders, from the federal level to the local level, to make the control of revenue leakage more effective.
In the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel, who serves as the coordinator of the committee, stated that special attention should be given to controlling illegal imports and exports, particularly in areas around customs points and through alternative routes. He mentioned that significant progress could be made in curbing illegal transactions if all agencies act proactively and responsibly.
Finance Secretary Dr. Ram Prasad Ghimire highlighted the need for uniform understanding among various bodies on issues such as the condition, classification, and use of imported and exported goods. He also stressed the importance of working with accurate and factual information.
Officials participating in the meeting acknowledged the gradual improvement in controlling illegal imports and exports but emphasized that further initiatives are necessary for more meaningful results. They called for increased surveillance at border areas, enhanced market monitoring, and a greater focus on technology use.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Department of Revenue Investigation, the Department of Customs, the Inland Revenue Department, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and the National Investigation Department, among other agencies.
