Kathmandu- Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Kulman Ghising, stated that charging stations throughout the country should be increased to promote Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Participating in the IPPAN rally organized by the Independent Power Producers Association Nepal, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary, Ghising spoke about the increased use of EVs in recent times. He mentioned that not only private vehicles but also passenger vehicles operating across the country have switched to using EVs.
He said that the rise in EV adoption in passenger vehicles is a significant change. Ghising also pointed out that EVs have increased nationwide. He noted that IPAAN’s rally has greatly contributed to the Authority’s campaign aimed at increasing electricity demand across the country.
Ghising mentioned that recently, the sale and purchase of EVs have reached 70 percent. He added that promoting EVs requires not only their increased purchase but also the construction of essential infrastructure, particularly EV charging stations, across the country. He emphasized the need to build these stations nationwide.
He also highlighted that the government has encouraged the private sector with significant concessions, leading to the establishment of over 600 charging stations by the private sector alone.
President of IPAAN, Ganesh Karki, stated that it is essential for the electricity produced in the country to be consumed domestically. He added that while electricity production is increasing, its consumption within Nepal is crucial. Karki emphasized that the government should create an environment where everyone is eligible to use EVs and also encouraged the increased use of electrical equipment.
