Law Minister Lamichhane Expresses Displeasure Over KMC’s Failure to Transfer 40% of Revenue to the Province Government

Kathmandu – Minister of Internal Affairs and Law of Bagmati Province, Suraj Chandra Lamichhane, expressed dissatisfaction over Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s failure to submit 40% of the revenue to the Province Government.

He made these remarks while speaking at the “Capacity Building of Women Representatives at the Local Level” program, organized by the government of Bagmati Province on Wednesday in Kathmandu. Lamichhane added that although all municipalities are required to submit 40% of their revenue, with 60% retained for their own use, Kathmandu Metropolitan City has yet to comply.

He further stated that municipalities only approach the Provincial Government when seeking budgetary support, and otherwise, they remain disengaged, especially during the formulation of laws and the facilitation of law implementation. He pointed out that local governments do not coordinate with the Provincial Government, except in relation to the budget.

Lamichhane assured that the Bagmati Provincial Government is ready to support and work alongside local governments for mutual cooperation and development.
