Kathmandu- Nepal’s third-largest suspension bridge, connecting Ward No. 6 and 7 of Buddha Shanti Rural Municipality, has been inaugurated.
Bishwa Prasad Sharma, General Secretary of the Nepali Congress and House of Representatives member from Jhapa Region 1, inaugurated the bridge on Thursday. With this, the bridge becomes the longest suspension bridge in Koshi Province. The 477-meter bridge, constructed over the Timar River near the Buddha Shanti Ward No. 7 office, has been fully operational since Thursday.
In his inaugural speech, General Secretary Sharma expressed his belief that the bridge would not only facilitate movement but would also transform the lives of the locals.
Locals are hopeful that the bridge will not only connect the two wards of Buddha Shanti Rural Municipality but also serve as a link between the villages of Ilam and Jhapa. The Chairman of Buddha Shanti, Manoj Prasai, believes this hope will soon become a reality.
People have already started flocking to the bridge. The lawmaker and General Secretary of the Nepali Congress from Jhapa Region 1 laid the foundation for the bridge on 24th Ashar. The suspension bridge was constructed by Thani/Jagadamba JV Kathmandu at a cost of NRs 59,881,761.35.
The agreement for the project was signed on 24th Jestha 2081, with construction expected to be completed before 23rd Jestha 2084. However, the project was completed in about six months.
