Nepal Airlines Corporation Becoming Weaker Day by Day: Minister Pandey

Kathmandu — Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, informed that Nepal Airlines Corporation is becoming weaker day by day.

Speaking at a meeting in the House of Representatives under the International Relations and Tourism Committee on Tuesday, Minister Pandey expressed dissatisfaction, saying that despite Nepal Airlines being the only national flag carrier, it is unable to demonstrate strong capacity in air travel.

He indicated that the corporation’s inability to operate both wide-body and narrow-body aircraft is a sign of inefficiency. Minister Pandey stated that the national flag carrier has failed to play its role in expanding Nepal’s air traffic and making air tickets affordable. He added that the corporation is also unable to control and regulate airfares.

He stated that the government has repeatedly discussed with the corporation to improve Nepal Airlines. He has been investigating matters related to the airline, from the purchase of airplanes to various controversies, including transparency in the operational model of the Airlines Corporation and ticket distribution.

He mentioned that the Ministry had recently given one month’s time for Nepal Airlines Corporation to submit a work plan for improvement.
