Kathmandu- Over a five-month period in the fiscal year 2080-81, a total of 83 people lost their lives due to wild animal attacks. According to statistics issued by Nepal Police, there were 83 deaths, 599 injuries, and 256 rescues during this period.
A total of 6 people lost their lives due to elephant attacks, 14 were injured, and 3 were rescued. In the case of tiger attacks, 3 people died, 24 were injured, and 11 were rescued. Rhino attacks resulted in 4 deaths, 14 injuries, and 4 rescues.
There were 14 injuries and 2 rescues reported from bear attacks. Snake attacks were the deadliest, claiming 70 lives, injuring 532 people, and leading to 136 rescues.
During this period, the police managed a total of 1,835 incidents. Since many of these incidents occurred in risky areas, the police have urged locals to remain alert and cautious. To raise awareness and reduce human casualties, Nepal Police has expressed its commitment to improving the effectiveness of its efforts.
