While the Economy Shows Signs of Improvement, Further Effort Is Required: Governor Adhikari

Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Mahaprasad Adhikari stated that while the economy shows signs of improvement, it still has not reached the expected level of progress. During a meeting on Tuesday at Nepal Rastra Bank, he congratulated the newly elected working committee of the Nepal Association of Financial Journalists. Governor Adhikari emphasized that, despite recent improvements in economic activity, the country has not yet made the expected progress.

“The monthly report for Mangsir shows satisfactory results in economic activities. Nepal Rastra Bank has provided economic support to both the private and public sectors, which have contributed to making the economy more dynamic,” Governor Adhikari said.

He also highlighted recent developments in the industrial sector. “Since 2048, industries have expanded significantly. Sectors like cement and rods are flourishing, which has increased the demand for credit in banks. We view this demand positively, as it helps drive the economy forward,” he added.

Governor Adhikari acknowledged ongoing discussions about crises in some sectors but pointed out that Nepal has managed to maintain its international country rating. “This is a success for Nepal,” he stated.

The Governor emphasized the importance of starting and completing projects on time. “It is essential to begin and finish projects as scheduled. He recommend that ministries and their departments work more actively. Economic progress is underway, but it requires additional time. “There is no such thing as a magic solution; it is necessary to implement plans on time,” Governor Adhikari noted.

Governor Adhikari also urged journalists to base their reporting on facts and research. He warned that false information has a negative impact on the public and encouraged responsible reporting. “The news you write is for the public. If you report accurately, the public’s perception will be positive, but if you report incorrectly, it will lead to negative perceptions,” he said.

Referring to some recent YouTube videos, Governor Adhikari explained how one-sided information could cause distortion. “Some videos present one thing externally while the actual reality is different. This has led to distortions in various sectors,” he added.

Governor Adhikari emphasized the importance of coordination between journalists and Nepal Rastra Bank. “We are close to you, not far away. If you are planning any program, feel free to inform us beforehand,” he said. He also expressed the need for in-depth discussions on matters related to Nepal Rastra Bank.
