Tamu Loshar Celebrated Across the Country



Kathmandu . The Gurung community, also known as the Tamu community, celebrated Tamu Loshar across the country today, marking the beginning of their New Year. Observed annually on the 15th of Poush, this vibrant festival showcases the rich cultural heritage of the Gurung people.

In the Gurung language, “Lho” means year and “Shar” means new, symbolizing Loshar as the festival of the New Year.

The celebrations in Kathmandu included rallies in various parts of the city, with the main event held at Tundikhel. Members of the community donned their traditional, colorful attire and performed traditional dances, highlighting their cultural pride and unity.

Tamu Loshar is a time to set aside the challenges of the past year and embrace the New Year with hope and positivity. The government declared a public holiday to honor this important occasion, allowing people from all walks of life to join in the festivities.

The celebration at Tundikhel drew significant participation, with cultural programs and speeches emphasizing the importance of preserving the community’s traditions.
