Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality Instructs Focus on Management of Electronic Vehicle Batteries

Kathmandu – Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality has warned that legal action will be taken against importers, sellers, and users who fail to properly manage dead batteries used in electronic vehicles.

According to a notice issued by the Metropolitan Municipality, it has been clearly stated that solid, liquid, and gaseous discharges emitted from used batteries are harmful to the environment. The Municipality has called on responsible authorities to provide clear information on the collection, storage, reuse, and final disposal methods for these batteries.

Pointing out that irresponsible management of batteries is causing environmental damage, the Metropolitan Municipality, under Section 51 of the Environment and Nature Conservation Act, has reminded citizens of their duty to manage waste. Failure to comply with this duty may result in penalties under Section 52 of the same Act.

The relevant act and laws can be viewed through a link available on the Metropolitan Municipality’s website at https://kathmandu.gov.np/, where users can access full details. The Municipality has urged all responsible authorities to take the necessary steps to protect the environment.
