Kathmandu – Rajbiraj Airport in Saptari has started operating night flights. On Monday night, Buddha Air made the first experimental flight from Kathmandu to Rajbiraj. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation decided to introduce night flights after local residents complained about having only one flight per day.
Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Badri Pandey, along with officials from the Civil Aviation Authority, visited Rajbiraj for the event celebrating the start of the night flights. Minister Pandey said that Rajbiraj Airport is now the 10th airport in Nepal to offer night flights. He believes the airport will grow and bring economic and tourism benefits to the region.
Minister Pandey also mentioned that while Pokhara Airport has not yet fully developed, international flights are starting to be introduced. As services at Rajbiraj Airport grow, more passengers are expected, which will help the local economy. The ministry is also working on plans to add direct flights to other domestic airports.
Pradip Adhikari, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, said Rajbiraj Airport will be especially important during times of crisis when road transport is affected. He is confident that the new night flights and better landing facilities will make travel easier for local people in Saptari.
Dr. Chandra Kant Raut, Chairman of the Janamat Party, called the launch of night flights in Rajbiraj a proud moment for Saptari. He said everyone should work together to make the night flight services a success. He also added that people in Saptari should take more steps to increase flight operations at Rajbiraj Airport.
