Investment Expansion Key to Job Creation and Labour Security: Dhakal

Kathmandu. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), emphasized that growing domestic and foreign investment is crucial for job creation and labour security.

Speaking at a business and human rights discussion program held in Bangkok, Thailand, on Tuesday, Dhakal highlighted how increased production and productivity foster a protective environment for both investors and workers.

Dhakal also stressed the importance of providing opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and urged the government and development partners to focus on the rights of small entrepreneurs. He advocated for joint efforts across sectors to formalize the informal economy and ensure workers’ rights in that segment, mentioning that a strategy for formalization is being developed.

Additionally, Dhakal underscored FNCCI’s commitment to human rights and responsible business practices, noting Nepal’s recent legislative reforms, including the amendment of eight investment-related laws and the approval of a bilateral investment treaty framework. He called on investors to seize the improving investment climate in Nepal.
