Nepal Offers Ample Investment Opportunities in Tourism Sector: Dhakal

Kathmandu. Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), emphasized the need for increased investment in tourism infrastructure to position Nepal as a premier tourist destination.

Speaking at the 37th Asian Trade Promotion Forum in Bangkok on Monday, Dhakal informed foreign investors about the potential opportunities in sectors such as hotels, theme parks, and adventure tourism.

Highlighting the rising demand for resorts in Nepal, he pointed out significant partnership opportunities within this sector. Dhakal also underscored investment prospects in Nepal’s information and communication technology (ICT) and film industries.

He noted substantial growth in areas like handicrafts, music, films, and digital art, which not only contribute to economic development but also help preserve the country’s rich cultural heritage.

Discussing the ICT industry’s potential, Dhakal acknowledged the vital contributions of Nepal’s young and dynamic population. However, he stressed the need for improved financial access, capacity building, and market opportunities for small and medium enterprises to fully realize this sector’s potential.

Dhakal also highlighted the strategic advantages Nepal offers to foreign investors, mentioning recent amendments to eight investment-related laws and the endorsement of a bilateral investment treaty framework to facilitate foreign investment.

Additionally, he discussed the growing potential of Nepal’s hydropower sector, noting India’s commitment to purchasing 10,000 megawatts of electricity from Nepal over the next decade, along with new opportunities emerging in Bangladesh.
