Ncell Celebrates 19 Years with Launch of Ncell Foundation and Rs. 200 Million Social Commitment

Kathmandu– Ncell, Nepal’s pioneering private GSM mobile service provider, marked its 19th anniversary today with the launch of the Ncell Foundation and a pledge to contribute Rs. 200 million to social causes over the next five years. The announcement was made during a special event highlighting the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and community support.

The Ncell Foundation will oversee and drive all of Ncell’s CSR activities, uniting past efforts under one comprehensive initiative. “Over the past 19 years, Ncell has invested over Rs. 2 billion in CSR activities, impacting over 13 million lives,” said Jabbor Kayumov, Ncell’s CEO and Managing Director. “The Foundation will focus on three key areas: supporting those in need, bridging the digital divide, and fostering a healthier, more sustainable Nepal.”

Ncell’s CSR track record includes significant contributions to disaster relief and health initiatives. Following the 2015 earthquake, Ncell donated Rs. 100 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and provided Rs. 1.6 billion in communication support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company contributed Rs. 100 million for protective gear and PCR testing kits. Last year, Ncell supported earthquake relief efforts in Jajarkot and funded educational infrastructure in local schools.

The new Ncell Foundation aims to continue this legacy with its ‘19 for 19’ initiative, providing Rs. 1 million each to 19 social projects across Nepal’s seven provinces. The ‘18 for 18’ initiative, launched last year, is also in the implementation phase.

In addition to the foundation’s launch, Ncell honored Para-athlete Palesha Goverdhan for her historic achievement at the Paris Paralympics 2024, where she won Nepal’s first-ever medal. Kayumov shared how Ncell’s support for Palesha, despite limited PR or business incentives, reflected the company’s dedication to supporting unsung heroes.

As Ncell celebrates its 19 years of service, the company remains committed to enhancing Nepal’s digital future, with a track record of paying over Rs. 320 billion in taxes and fees, significantly contributing to the country’s economy.

The anniversary celebrations also feature various community-focused activities, including tree plantations, educational kit distributions, health camps, and more, reflecting Ncell’s ongoing engagement with and gratitude to its customers and stakeholders.
