Kathmandu. A waste management awareness program was successfully conducted yesterday at two schools in Chandragiri, organized by Engineering Gyan Nepal in collaboration with the Lions Club of Kathmandu United Stars. The program aimed to educate students on proper waste disposal practices and the environmental impacts of waste.
The event saw the participation of 80 students and 10 teachers from Shree Janabikash Madhyamik Bidhyalaya, Chandragiri-8, and 30 students and 5 teachers from Shree Bhairab Nath Secondary School, Bosi Gaun, Chandragiri-10.
The sessions were led by Mr. Anil Kumar Baral, a PhD scholar in waste management and the head of the Waste Management Department at Engineering Gyan Nepal. He provided valuable insights into effective waste management and its significance for environmental protection.
The program at Shree Janabikash Madhyamik Bidhyalaya was chaired by Mr. Pralhad Rijal, the Ward President of Chandragiri-8, while the session at Shree Bhairab Nath Secondary School was chaired by Mr. Shiva Maharjan, the Ward President of Chandragiri-10. Both leaders emphasized the critical role of education in addressing local waste management challenges.
Environmental expert Dr. Bidur Dhungel also addressed the students, discussing the pressing issues of climate change and global warming, while engineer Bhim Bahadur Bomjam explained the process of creating compost from organic waste.
The Lions Club of Kathmandu United Stars significantly contributed to the event, with Service Chief Mr. Ashwin Shrestha announcing a peace poster competition for the schools, offering prizes for the best posters. Additionally, Lions Club members Ashwin Shrestha, Srijana Baral, and Sonika Aryal donated four dustbins and four buckets to each school to encourage students to practice proper waste management.
Certificates of participation were awarded to the students and teachers from both schools in recognition of their active involvement in the program. The principals and teachers expressed their gratitude to Mr. Anil Kumar Baral and the organizing team for their efforts, highlighting the program’s positive impact on the schools and the wider community.
