Nepal Celebrates Father’s Day and Kushe Aushi with Reverence and Traditions

Kathmandu. Today, on the 17th of Bhadra, Father’s Day is being celebrated across the country. Known as “Buwa ko Mukh Herne Din,” this day is dedicated to sons and daughters offering respect and homage to their fathers.

Fathers, regarded as protectors, teachers, preachers, and saviors, are honored with love and respect. Families present their fathers with their favorite sweets, dishes, and clothes, and spend quality time together. Those living abroad often connect with their fathers through phone calls or the internet.

For those whose fathers have passed away, homage is paid by performing “Shradh” rituals at nearby rivers, or at the Gokarneshwar Temple. A fair is also organized at Gokarneshwar on this occasion, attracting large crowds.

Kushe Aushi, which coincides with Father’s Day, is also celebrated today. People bring home “Kush,” a plant with both medicinal and religious significance. For Hindus, “Kush” is essential in many rituals, and it is believed to protect households from negative energy and purify the soul.

Additionally, today marks the birth anniversary of the late Moti Ram Bhatta, whose contributions to Nepali literature are unforgettable. Various literary programs are organized across the country to commemorate Moti Ram Jayanti.
