Kathmandu. The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an interim order against the government’s decision to make the National ID card mandatory for obtaining Social Security Allowance.
In a joint sitting held on Friday, a bench comprising Judge Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma and Judge Til Prasad Shrestha passed the order, stating that the National ID card should not be obligatory for Personal Event Registration, which includes the process of obtaining Social Security Allowance.
The court’s decision comes in response to a writ petition challenging the government’s recent move. Starting from the 1st of Shrawan, the government had initiated the mandatory use of National ID cards for Social Security Allowance distribution in 28 districts as part of the scheme’s first phase.
