Relief and recovery support for families affected by the Bhote Koshi floods and other disasters is continuing with financial assistance from Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI) and coordination by Child Development Program Nepal (CDPN).
According to CDPN Nepal, various relief and support programmes have been underway in affected communities since September 11 with financial assistance from KFHI. On September 21, stationery and sports materials were provided to around 1,000 students at Trishuli Secondary School in Nuwakot.
Food and essential relief supplies have also been airlifted by helicopter to areas of Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality in Rasuwa that lack road and vehicle access, in coordination with the World Food Programme (WFP).
Alongside emergency relief, support has also been extended to meet the educational needs of children affected by the disaster.
Similarly, essential relief supplies have been distributed to 100 families from Rasuwa who are taking shelter at Himalayan Academy in Bidur-Batar, Nuwakot. The assistance included blankets, mattresses, towels, mosquito nets, T-shirts, slippers, bathing and laundry soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and bags for storing personal belongings.
Thirty school bags were also provided to school-going children, with essential educational and food supplies placed inside the bags.
Representatives from KFHI, including its director and Nepal country head Park, CDPN representative Balkrishna Bhattarai and Ranjit Poddar of Saathi Computer, among others, attended the relief distribution programme.
Earlier, on September 16, 100 families in Tupche, Nuwakot, received gas cylinders and essential kitchen supplies in coordination with Bidur Municipality.
KFHI said its support is aimed at addressing the immediate needs of families affected by floods and other disasters. The organisation has also been providing emergency assistance to affected communities and supporting efforts in education, health and community recovery.
CDPN has been working in the areas of education, health, livelihoods and disaster management for children and communities. During disasters, the organisation works with local governments and various partner organisations to address the immediate needs of affected families and children and to support recovery efforts.
