Ncell has extended its free voice, data and SMS services in flood-affected areas by another seven days to facilitate communication, search and rescue operations and relief distribution.
The extended service will come into effect from Saturday and remain available for an additional week.
Earlier on Wednesday, Ncell had announced three days of free data, all net voice calls and 100 free SMS for people affected by severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. The initial three-day period ends on Friday.
The company said communication services are crucial during disasters for information sharing, coordination and search, rescue and relief efforts. The extension is intended to help affected residents remain connected with their families and rescue and relief teams coordinate effectively.
“Through this contribution, we believe people in the affected communities will be able to stay connected with their families and loved ones during this difficult time, while also making it easier for teams involved in rescue and relief efforts to coordinate as needed,” said Upanga Dutta, Chief Consumer Business Officer of Ncell.
18 mobile towers restored
Ncell has also restored 18 mobile towers disrupted by the floods in affected areas. The company said work is underway to restore another nine affected sites.
Ncell has been supporting the continuity of communication services and emergency search, rescue and relief operations during the disaster.
Meanwhile, the Ncell Foundation contributed Rs. 10 million to the Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund on Thursday for search, rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The company has also been disseminating safety-related information through SMS and its social media platforms, urging people in flood-affected areas to remain safe and follow instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
