Lions Club Rolpa has provided relief materials to landslide victims in Kotbara, Uwa, Thabang Rural Municipality–5 of Rolpa district.

The relief materials, collected through the club’s emergency relief fund and individual contributions, were handed over to ward representatives and the relief collection coordinator, said former president of Lions Club Rolpa, Ramesh Adhikari.

The club’s team reached the disaster-affected area carrying food items, clothing and blankets worth around NPR 70,000 for immediate relief.

Lions Club Rolpa founding president Gyanendra Acharya said relief materials were distributed to 10 families in immediate need, and the club plans to collect and distribute additional relief materials.

The relief distribution team included former president Adhikari, founding president Acharya, founding treasurer Om Khatri, immediate past president Keshab Acharya and founding member Ashish Acharya. Adhikari said Lions Club was the first organization, apart from the government administration, to reach the affected area with relief materials.

The team faced difficult road conditions and continuous rainfall on the way to the affected area, with road blockages at several points forcing them to stop repeatedly.

Lions Club Rolpa said it has also been coordinating with other national and international Lions networks to arrange additional relief support.

Meanwhile, landslides triggered by continuous rainfall in Uwa, Rolpa, have buried 11 houses and cattle sheds, both newly built and old. Ten people were killed in the landslide that occurred last Wednesday.

A total of 18 people have died in different parts of Rolpa over the past five days, while hundreds of people have been affected by the disaster.
