Kathmandu. The Swostishree Gurukul 7th SG Inter-school Junior Futsal Tournament 2026 officially kicked off today at the school premises, marking a vibrant celebration of youth sports, teamwork, and emerging football talent.
The opening ceremony brought together young athletes from across the region, along with teachers, school officials, and sports enthusiasts. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Ms. Gita Rana Magar, a prominent member of the Nepal National Women’s Football Team. She was accompanied by Managing Director Ms. Mina Maharjan and Principal Ms. Neha KC, who welcomed participants and guests.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Neha KC highlighted the educational value of sports alongside academics. She noted that sporting activities play a crucial role in shaping discipline, teamwork, and character among students. According to her, such tournaments help young learners understand sportsmanship and the importance of collective effort beyond the classroom.
This year’s tournament has drawn participation from 13 schools, with teams competing in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories, reflecting the growing popularity of futsal at the grassroots level. The competition opened with an energetic Under-7 Boys’ match, where host team Swostishree Gurukul (Boys A) registered an impressive 4–0 victory over Life School, setting a strong tone for the tournament.
The tournament format includes 32 league matches, designed to test the consistency, skill, and teamwork of the young players. Based on league results, the top teams will advance to the semifinals, leading to the final showdown.
The 7th SG Inter-school Junior Futsal Tournament 2026 is scheduled to conclude on Tuesday with a grand closing ceremony, during which the winning teams will be honored.
