GenZ Movement: Insurance Claims from Arson and Vandalism Exceed NPR 20.7 Billion



Kathmandu — Insurance companies in Nepal have received claims worth more than NPR 20 billion following the arson and vandalism during the GenZ Movement on September 8 and 9 (Bhadra 23 and 24).

According to data released by the Nepal Insurance Authority as of September 16 (Bhadra 31, 2082), a total of 1,984 claims have been filed across 14 non-life and 4 micro non-life insurance companies. The total claim amount has crossed NPR 20.70 billion.

The highest amount of claims were filed with The Oriental Insurance, which faces potential payouts of NPR 5.14 billion from 40 claims. Siddhartha Premier Insurance recorded the second largest, with 258 claims amounting to NPR 4.93 billion.

Other significant claims include:

  • Shikhar Insurance: 366 claims worth NPR 2.39 billion
  • IGI Prudential Insurance: 24 claims worth NPR 1.59 billion
  • Sagarmatha Lumbini Insurance: 233 claims worth NPR 1.47 billion
  • Himalayan Everest Insurance: 196 claims worth NPR 1.15 billion
  • Neco Insurance: 40 claims worth NPR 1.09 billion

Additional claims registered:

  • Sanima GIC Insurance – NPR 789 million
  • Rastriya Beema Company – NPR 495 million
  • United Ajod Insurance – NPR 487 million
  • Nepal Insurance – NPR 469 million
  • NLG Insurance – NPR 385 million
  • Prabhu Insurance – NPR 191 million
  • National Insurance – NPR 68 million

Among micro non-life insurers:

  • Protective Micro – NPR 11.3 million
  • Star Micro – NPR 6.7 million
  • Nepal Micro – NPR 5.6 million
  • Trust Micro – NPR 4.2 million

The figures underscore the massive financial toll the GenZ Movement has taken on Nepal’s insurance sector, with companies now bracing for record-high payouts.
