Kathmandu — Tourism entrepreneur Ang Chhiring Sherpa has been announced as the recipient of this year’s Madan Bhandari National Award.
The announcement was made during a press conference held in Kathmandu on Thursday by the Madan Bhandari Foundation. According to the Foundation’s Secretariat Member, Ramsharan Pyakurel, 47-year-old Sherpa has been actively involved in environmental and climate change advocacy for the past 47 years.
Sherpa, who is also a well-known tourism entrepreneur, hails from Khumjung village in Ward No. 4 of Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality, Solukhumbu. He served in leadership roles at the Nepal Mountaineering Association for nearly 15 years.
Sherpa will be honored on Asar 14 (June 28, 2025), coinciding with the 74th birth anniversary of People’s Leader Madan Bhandari. The award carries a cash prize of NPR 100,000.
