Kathmandu- A corruption case has been filed at the Kathmandu Special Court against three individuals, including the Accounts Officer, on charges of revenue embezzlement at the Provincial Government Hospital Surkhet.
According to a press statement issued by Rajendra Kumar Paudel, spokesperson for the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, the charge sheet has been filed against Shankar Prasad Subedi, Accounts Officer (Sixth Level) at Provincial Hospital Surkhet; Tripti Shahi, a contractual Computer Operator under the Social Service Unit Program; and Goma Sijali Magar, the then Head of the Kumari Bank Extension Counter in Surkhet, in accordance with the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
During the investigation, it was found that Tripti Shahi, who was assigned responsibility for the registration counter of the Health Insurance Unit, had unauthorizedly accessed the billing counter and performed billing tasks as well.
Out of the total amount of 3 million 403 thousand 856 rupees and 50 paisa collected from the said billing—which was supposed to be deposited into the hospital’s account—only 836 thousand 330 rupees was actually deposited. The remaining 2 million 567 thousand 526 rupees and 50 paisa is alleged to have been embezzled, causing loss and damage to the hospital’s public assets, according to the Commission’s claim.
According to the Commission, the three accused conspired to misuse public institution property with mutual agreement. For this reason, a charge sheet has been filed today in the Special Court, demanding action against them under Section 17 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2059.
The Commission has stated that it will take appropriate legal action against those involved in the case to bring them within the legal framework and protect public property.
