Kathmandu – An Air India flight, AI 171, on its way to London, crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Thursday. The plane was carrying 242 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
According to local media, the plane crashed within five minutes of takeoff.
Out of the 242 people on board, 169 were Indian, 53 British, one Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals. Reports also say that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was among the passengers.
Emergency services, including fire brigades, ambulances, and police, were sent to the site for rescue operations.
Following the crash, all flight operations at Ahmedabad airport have been temporarily suspended. The cause of the crash is being investigated.
