Kathmandu – CPN-UML lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri has demanded that parliamentary committee meetings be conducted according to a working calendar to ensure timely and efficient discussions.
Speaking at Sunday’s Finance Committee meeting, he raised concerns over delays in discussions on the bill to amend and consolidate customs laws. He expressed dissatisfaction that, despite scheduling two meetings within 15 days, they were not held on time.
Thapa criticized the lack of a fixed timeline for clause-wise discussions on bills and stressed the importance of creating a working calendar to complete deliberations efficiently.
“Let’s establish a working calendar and properly conclude this bill. I have put aside my district programs for 15 days to focus on this, but if only two meetings are held in that period, I can’t continue like this. There must be a clear timeline for clause-wise discussions,” he stated.
He also expressed frustration over meetings starting an hour late, warning that if this continues, he would start arriving two hours late as a form of protest.
