The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has classified 17 highway hotels and restaurants in Dhading district into three quality grades following inspections in Galchhi, Thakre and Dhunibesi. Two establishments were rated ‘Good’, one ‘Satisfactory’ and the remaining 14 ‘Average’.
The inspection was conducted following public complaints about poor sanitation, stale and low-quality food, and excessive prices at hotels and restaurants serving meals and snacks to passengers travelling on public transport.
The department deployed an inspection team on Asoj 27 (October 13) to implement a notice issued by the Department of Transport Management following discussions among concerned government agencies.
According to the department, Bipal Crown Resort Pvt. Ltd., located in Galchhi Rural Municipality-4, and Transit House Restaurant in Dhunibesi-1 received a ‘Good’ rating. Both establishments were awarded green ‘B’ stickers bearing two stars.
New Kashthamandap Hotel in Thakre-2 was rated ‘Satisfactory’ and received a green ‘C’ sticker bearing one star.
The remaining 14 establishments were classified as ‘Average’ and awarded yellow ‘D’ stickers. The department’s classification system uses the grades ‘Very Good’, ‘Good’, ‘Satisfactory’ and ‘Average’, represented by green or yellow stickers.
The establishments classified as ‘Average’ are Hotel New Namaste Nepal and Cold Store in Thakre-1; Thakali Bhansa Ghar in Thakre-6; Juntara Restaurant and Lodge in Galchhi-6; Kantipur Hotel and Lodge in Thakre-1; The Wa.Ci Cold Store in Thakre-6; Riya Hotel and New Supa Urali Hotel in Thakre-8; Highway Break Point Cold Store in Dhunibesi-1; Shree Annapurna Hotel in Thakre-6; Hotel Sayapari in Thakre-2; Highway King Fast Food and Restaurant in Dhunibesi-1; New Adhikhola Hotel in Dhunibesi; New Pandey Khaja Ghar and Lodge in Dhunibesi-1; and New Pathibhara Hotel in Thakre-1.
The department said the classification aims to improve food hygiene and quality and ensure that travellers can obtain safe meals and snacks at reasonable prices along major highways.
