Gita Chaudhary, Minister for Agriculture, Forests and Environment of Nepal, held a courtesy meeting today at the Ministry with Ms. Hua Yang, Director of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Division (PST) and Deputy Director of Cabinet, Office of the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
During the meeting, the two sides discussed strengthening food security in Nepal, transforming the agriculture sector, advancing sustainable agrifood systems, and expanding South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
Minister Chaudhary reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to further strengthening collaboration with FAO to accelerate agricultural transformation, enhance food security, and mobilize international financial resources for the country’s agricultural development.
The discussion also covered cross-border animal disease control, climate-resilient agriculture, strengthening the capacity of agricultural laboratories, establishing internationally accredited laboratories, promoting exports of high-value agricultural products, and reinforcing the legal and institutional framework for Geographical Indications (GI).
Ms. Hua Yang noted that she had recently assumed leadership of the South-South and Triangular Cooperation Division and expressed her commitment to giving priority to expanding cooperation with Nepal. She also invited Nepal to participate in upcoming international events on agricultural science and innovation, as well as programs to be held at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the partnership between the Government of Nepal and FAO to promote sustainable, resilient, and inclusive agrifood systems and support the country’s long-term agricultural development.
