Nepal to Host International Mining Conference Soon: Industry Minister Bhandari

Kathmandu — Nepal is preparing to host an International Mining Conference in the near future, announced Damodar Bhandari, Minister for Industry, Commerce, and Supplies.

Speaking at an interaction program on Thursday regarding the upcoming Investment and Development Conference in Sudurpashchim Province, the minister highlighted that the mining sector holds the greatest potential for investment in the country.

Minister Bhandari said Nepal plans to invite countries and companies that have achieved significant success in mineral exploration and production to participate in the conference. Experts, industry leaders, and technology providers from China, India, Australia, the United States, and other global mining hubs will be invited.

The aim, he noted, is to attract advanced technologies, renowned specialists, and foreign investment to foster the growth of Nepal’s mining sector and create a favorable investment environment.

He further mentioned that studies conducted in Jaljale, Dailekh have revealed promising possibilities for oil and natural gas reserves in Nepal. The government plans to begin test production of natural gas from Mangsir (November/December) this year, which could mark a significant step towards achieving energy self-sufficiency.

Minister Bhandari also emphasized that Nepal Standards (NS) certification will soon be made mandatory for imported goods. He stated that only products meeting quality and safety benchmarks will be allowed into the country, with the aim of ensuring consumer protection and improving market standards.

Highlighting the impact of ongoing global trade conflicts, the minister said such developments could provide Nepal with new opportunities to expand its export potential.

He urged stakeholders to focus on domestic production, import substitution, and export growth in order to strengthen the country’s economy and make Nepal more competitive in the global market.
