Nepal–India Friendship Society Concludes Yoga, Pranayama, and Meditation Camp

Kathmandu – On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga 2025, a special yoga, pranayama, and meditation camp was organized at the Rotary Club Hall in Thapathali, Kathmandu. The event was hosted by the Nepal–India Friendship Society to mark the celebration of International Yoga Day, observed globally on June 21.

Renowned yoga guru Swami Shri Dhruvaj led the session, guiding participants through various yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation practices. The 90-minute session witnessed the enthusiastic participation of individuals from diverse backgrounds, including teachers, doctors, journalists, youth, senior citizens, and both men and women.

Swami Shri Dhruvaj emphasized that yoga is not merely a physical exercise but a holistic practice for mental and spiritual transformation. He stated, “Yoga is not just about physical fitness; it is a path of self-discipline, balance, and consciousness. Practices like meditation and pranayama help reduce mental stress and bring inner harmony in life.”

Senior Ayurvedic physician Dr. Gaurishankar Lal Das highlighted the complementary relationship between yoga and Ayurveda. He said, “Yoga significantly contributes to mental well-being, stress management, and lifestyle improvement. Such programs play an important role in building a healthier society.”

Prem Laskari, President of the Nepal–India Friendship Society, expressed his belief that events like this help strengthen cultural ties between the two nations. “Yoga is a priceless heritage of human civilization. These types of programs not only elevate Nepal–India friendship to new heights but also contribute to public health and awareness,” he remarked.

Ajay Kumar Singh, head of the Education Wing at the Indian Embassy, and Paritosh, a representative of the Indian Library, were also present at the event. They appreciated the growing enthusiasm and participation in yoga activities in Nepal.

The tradition of celebrating International Yoga Day began in 2015, following a proposal by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared June 21 as the “International Day of Yoga.” The primary objective of this observance is to promote physical and mental well-being and foster balance and awareness in life through yoga.

Around 200 participants attended the event, which was conducted in a peaceful, simple, and vibrant atmosphere. Attendees shared that they experienced a sense of mental peace and energy through the yoga practices.
