Three Parliamentary Sub-committees Formed to Study Domestic Worker Opportunities in UAE

Kathmandu– Three parliamentary sub-committees have been formed to study the possibilities of sending Nepali domestic workers to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a country with which Nepal has a bilateral labor agreement.

The sub-committees were formed during a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Industry, Commerce, Labor, and Consumer Welfare held on Friday.

Committee Chairperson Abdul Khan informed that the sub-committees were formed with the provision that their coordinators would be selected during their first meetings.

Chairperson Khan said, “There have been suggestions that the views of the political parties should also be taken into account while making decisions regarding domestic workers. Three parliamentary sub-committees have been formed in relation to domestic workers. A written decision will be issued today. The coordinators of the sub-committees will be decided in their respective meetings.”

Friday’s meeting focused on exploring foreign employment opportunities for Nepali domestic workers in the UAE under the existing bilateral labor agreement.
