Speaker Ghimire Holds Talks with Chief Whips to Break Parliamentary Deadlock

Kathmandu — Speaker of the House of Representatives Dev Raj Ghimire is holding discussions with the chief whips of various parties in an effort to break the ongoing parliamentary deadlock.

According to the Parliament Secretariat, Speaker Ghimire is conducting separate talks with the chief whips of both ruling and opposition parties.

Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Ajay Kumar Chaurasiya, Chief Whip of the Nepali Congress Shyam Kumar Ghimire, Chief Whip of CPN (UML) Mahesh Bartaula, and Chief Whip of the Maoist Centre Hitraj Pandey have participated in the discussions.

The opposition has accused the government of involvement in the visit visa case and has taken a firm stance, demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak as a precondition to resolving the deadlock.

As no agreement was reached with the opposition, the House of Representatives meeting scheduled for yesterday was postponed without being convened.
