Lawmaker Sawa Draws Government’s Attention to Farmers’ Problems in Jhapa

Kathmandu – Lawmaker Lal Prasad Sawa Limbu has urged the government to address the challenges faced by farmers in Jhapa due to the shortage of chemical fertilizer.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Wednesday, Sawa stated that crop production has been affected by the unavailability of essential fertilizers such as Potash, Urea, and DAP, which farmers need for growing maize, vegetables, rice, cucumber, watermelon, bitter gourd, and bottle gourd.

He further emphasized that farmers are struggling due to the government’s failure to ensure a steady supply of chemical fertilizer. Stressing the need for an immediate solution, he said, “The import of agricultural products in the country is increasing. During the current fiscal year, the import of agricultural products like rice and vegetables has reached NRs 51.24 billion within seven months. To regulate this situation, the shortage of chemical fertilizer must be resolved.”

Lawmaker Sawa called on the government to take effective measures and also underscored the need for a long-term policy to ensure the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
