The Food Department and KMC Sign Agreement to Ensure Hygiene and Quality

Kathmandu – The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) have signed an agreement to collaborate on ensuring food hygiene and quality.

The agreement was signed at the department’s office on Monday. Nurnidhi Neupane, Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, and Sanjeev Kumar Karn, Director General of the department, represented their respective institutions in the signing.

Speaking at the program, Director General Karn stated that this initiative with Kathmandu Metropolitan City marks the beginning of a broader plan to extend such collaborations to all 753 local governments in the future.

He expressed confidence in advancing this effort through cooperation and agreements with all local governments. He also noted that while the department has extensive experience in food quality management, it has been unable to carry out essential work effectively due to a lack of sufficient resources and materials.

Karn emphasized the need for a dedicated department for food hygiene and quality within Kathmandu Metropolitan City to strengthen monitoring and regulation. He further stated that establishing facilities for testing, regulation, and laboratory analysis would be even more beneficial in ensuring food safety.
