Consumer Court Scheduled to Operate from Sunday



Kathmandu .Following the enactment of the Consumer Rights Act 2075 BS, the Consumer Court is set to commence operations from Sunday (Chaitra 3). The court’s formal inauguration will take place tomorrow on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day.

Advocate Kumari Kheral has been credited as the key initiator of the Consumer Court. The court will operate in three major cities: Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur, with the primary objective of addressing consumer grievances and protecting consumer rights.

Speaking at the program titled “Consumer Court for Business and Consumers’ Human Rights: Swift and Accessible Justice,” Minister of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies Damodar Bhandari stated that the Consumer Court aims to prevent market distortions.

He further emphasized that ensuring business transparency and regulating pricing mechanisms are among its key priorities. Regarding financial support, he assured that the government is committed to allocating the necessary budget for the court’s full operation and expressed confidence in its successful implementation.

Judge Gahendra Regmi called for cooperation from journalists and other stakeholders to ensure that all consumers benefit from the court’s services.

During an interactive session, senior advocate Dr. Narayan Ghimire highlighted that factual evidence is crucial for filing consumer-related cases.

The Consumer Court will have jurisdiction over cases related to essential goods, food, and services. The official inauguration will be carried out tomorrow by Chief Justice Prakash Man Singh Raut.
