Kathmandu- Aain Bahadur Shahi Thakuri, Minister of Forests and Environment, announced that necessary directives have been issued to provincial ministries to develop action plans for the auction of forest wood.
In response to questions raised by a Member of Parliament during the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Minister Thakuri stated that ministries are working on bringing forest wood to market and ensuring its availability to consumers. He emphasized that efforts are underway to discourage the import of foreign wood by promoting the sustainable management of domestic forest resources.
The minister also highlighted ongoing initiatives to mitigate the impacts of climate change, noting that the draft amendment for carbon business regulations is in its final stages. He added that essential coordination and cooperation with the private sector would be vital for the development of the carbon business.
Minister Thakuri further mentioned that forest consumer groups are playing a crucial role in supporting community forest conservation efforts.
Additionally, he confirmed that the Ministry is well-prepared to control forest fires, with necessary directives issued to local administrations for forest fire prevention and preparedness.
