It is essential to Adopt Further Improvement Measures to Enhance Service Delivery: Chief Commissioner Rai

Kathmandu– Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Prem Kumar Rai, emphasized the need for additional improvement measures to streamline and simplify public service delivery for citizens.

Speaking at the program held on the occasion of the 34th Foundation Day of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Rai highlighted that despite the Nepal Government’s efforts to make public service delivery more predictable, accessible, and well-managed—with the increased use of Information Technology—service delivery in federal departments, including transport, land revenue, survey, passport, foreign employment, and immigration, has not been as effective as expected.

Rai further noted that services provided by provincial and local governments have become increasingly complex and expensive, making it difficult for citizens to access basic services. Reflecting on complaints filed with the commission, he identified several key issues, including: allocating budgets without identifying needs or justifications for public purchases and construction, making purchases without proper plans, paying for incomplete work, misusing grants, not adhering to citizens’ charters, the involvement of middlemen in service delivery, and collusion to disrupt service delivery and engage in irregularities.

He also informed that the Commission has been airing programs such as Sushasan Sawal on Nepal Television to raise awareness and promote good governance.
