Kathmandu- A subcommittee has been formed under the coordination of Shishir Khanal to study the issues facing Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), propose solutions for its improvement, and submit a report to the committee within one month.
The International Relations and Tourism Committee, during a meeting held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, formed the four-member subcommittee under Khanal’s coordination. The subcommittee consists of Khanal, Tsering Lamu Lama, Yogesh Gauchan Thakali, and Sunita Baral.
Chairman of the Committee, Raj Kishor Yadav, informed about the decision, stating that the Nepal Airlines Corporation Study Committee will submit its report within a month. Chairman Yadav said that a subcommittee will be formed regarding Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAN) in the upcoming meeting.
The committee has directed the Ministry to formulate an actionable work plan to improve the overall policy, structure, and management of the Ministry for the greater development of the culture, tourism, and civil aviation sectors. The Ministry has also been instructed to report back to the committee accordingly.
In a move to preserve Nepal’s diverse ethnicities, languages, religions, and cultural heritage, the government has directed the acceleration of the construction of the ethnic and religious museum in Nepal, emphasizing the promotion of tourism.
Additionally, the committee discussed the achievement and effectiveness of various bodies and projects operating through the Public-Private Partnership model under the Ministry. It has directed that this information be made available. The committee also emphasized the regular, efficient, and results-oriented excavation of archaeological heritage sites. Furthermore, it has instructed the concerned authorities to take steps for the regular operation of Bhairahawa and Pokhara International airports through agreements, coordination, and initiatives.
The committee has also directed the Government of Nepal and the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation to fully implement the business plan of Nepal Airlines Corporation and to submit progress reports to the committee regularly. The construction of the Nijgadh International Airport, deemed essential for national importance, security, and economic development, must be expedited.
The committee has instructed the Ministry to formulate plans and make use of land and physical resources owned by Nepal Airlines Corporation across the country, with the implementation of these plans to be reported to the committee promptly..
