Construction work at Tribhuvan Airport is satisfactory: Minister Pandey

Kathmandu . Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, Badri Prasad Pandey, has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing construction work at Tribhuvan International Airport. After inspecting the runway and taxiway, he stated that the progress is ahead of schedule and praised the high pace of development.

Minister Pandey highlighted that if the current pace continues, the construction might be completed before the scheduled date of Chaitra 18. He noted that in such a scenario, the airport’s operational closure time could be reduced from the current 10 hours per day to 8 hours, ensuring greater convenience for travelers.

“The ongoing construction sends a strong message that projects can be completed on time and with the desired quality,” Minister Pandey said. He further remarked that despite challenges such as unfinished projects, broken contracts, and delays in road construction, the airport expansion work demonstrates that timely completion is achievable.

The Minister emphasized that the expansion aims to enhance the airport’s capacity, with work hours extended to 10 hours daily to expedite progress. “We are witnessing significant progress across all construction sites,” he added.

On Monday night, Minister Pandey, along with a team, inspected several areas of the airport, including the taxiway, international apron, and hangar apron. The Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, responsible for the project, has been overseeing the airport’s expansion since Kartik 23, halting flight operations for 10 hours daily to facilitate the work.
