Former Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh Passes Away, Nation in Mourning



Kathmandu: Former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, passed away at the age of 92. He died last night while undergoing treatment at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi. Doctors pronounced him dead at 9:51 PM.

The Government of India has declared a seven-day national mourning to honor the late Prime Minister. During this period, the national flag will be flown at half-mast, and all official government activities will be suspended.

Dr. Singh served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. His tenure saw the implementation of significant initiatives, including the National Rural Health Mission, the Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and the Right to Information Act. In 2008, under his leadership, India signed a historic civil nuclear agreement with the United States. Dr. Singh is widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms.

His passing has not only brought grief to India but has resonated globally. Leaders from various nations and international organizations have expressed their condolences and paid tribute to his legacy. According to the Government of India, Dr. Singh’s funeral will be conducted with full state honors.
