UNDP Commits to Strengthening Nepal’s Climate Action and Adaptation Efforts



Kathmandu. The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has committed to aiding Nepal with its climate measures.

At the World Climate Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, a bilateral meeting was held between the Nepalese government delegation and the UNDP team. During the meeting, UN Assistant Secretary-General Marcos Neto assured Nepal of support in addressing climate challenges.

The Nepalese delegation was led by Deepak Khanal, Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Environment. Khanal informed that the discussions included a review of UN activities in Nepal and upcoming major programs.

Marcos Neto, the former director of the UNDP Bureau of Policy and Programmes, also expressed UNDP’s commitment to contributing to the formation of Nepal’s National Development Council and supporting the implementation of climate-related schemes.

Neto further emphasized that UNDP remains ready to collaborate with the Government of Nepal to advance the country’s development, particularly in climate adaptation activities, loss and damage, and carbon trading under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.

He also praised Nepal’s focus on mountain issues and loss and damage, stressing that these areas will be key priorities for UNDP’s support in the coming years.

In addition, UNDP has been assisting Nepal with its National Biodiversity Strategy and the development of a work plan. The organization has been actively contributing to Nepal’s overall development through various programs and plans focused on sustainability and environmental protection.
